Musings of a curious developer ت

A quick update on life and what I'm planning to do next.

Halo internet, time for a quick update on life!

I’m very happy to see the product that my colleagues and I helped build finally go live last week! That said, my last day at Xfers is actually on end of Oct. Long story short, I am leaving to find something more meaningful to do in life. The average person spends about 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime (which is A LOT mind you!) so if you’re not having fun and enjoying what you are doing, why work? Money can be easily made anywhere else since we are developers after all.

My first priority after leaving will be tracing.money. While not necessarily aligned with my definition of meaningful and fun, I am focusing on it because I want to still be able to earn some side income while I slowly figure life out. I believe it is possible to make money by mimicking the trades of the most profitable DEX users; I just need to find out who they are. Moreover, there’s no shortage of blockchain developer jobs at the moment so I have, to some extent, a safety net (along with my crypto investments & my savings in the bank). What’s the worst that can happen? Everything fails, I run out of money and I go back to a 9-5 job. Waifu has given me 6 months after leaving to start generating some money so I’m not going to spend that time frivolously.

I have also been getting distracted by my numerous interests (smart contract development, multiplayer game dev, web assembly etc) lately. This constant struggle between my rational and irrational mind is why I need to constantly remind myself that I should focus on one project at a time otherwise I may never complete any of them. In fact, I have dropped more projects this year than the past 2 years combined! Needless to say, I am very disappointed with myself for that. Frankly, I am also not very satisfied with the projects I’ve done to date (except maybe Dodge the Creeps) so I really want to commit and give it my all for the next project that I will be working on! We shall see if I live up to my words in a few months.

That’s about it for this update. Stay safe and stay hungry!
